A Modernist whose work is extremely relevant today is Hungarian born Marcel Breuer. Breuer was a different kind of designer, and he worked from a small workshop on the design of furniture. He was particularly interested in the implementation of new materials seen to have been more ‘Modern’, and how they could be used to design fresh look chairs for a modern society. His breakthrough was the use of tubular steel in his then called ‘Club’ chair, as it was easily mass produced, while abiding to his vision of a modern look. Similar chairs are still used in current day society, based on his designs and materials.
