Introduction
The task is to design a public park. Before starting your own park watch this video, which introduces the design process and demonstrates how to use the Autodesk® SketchBook® software to plan a sample park. You might want to use that software or pencil and paper.
Work through this tutorial to develop the skills you will need.
Understand - Explore
Design brief
Modify the park design to incorporate a children's playground.
Research
- What items are typically in a playground?
- What things need to be considered?
- What examples can you draw on?
Planning
Using a pencil sketch out at least two alternative plans.
Think about the following issues in relation to the children's area:
- Security
- Safety
- Parent acess and visibility
- Position in relation to street, pathways etc?
- What things need to be considered in relation to colour and materials?
- What changes need to be made to other areas to accommodate the childrens' area?
Prototype
Chose the best solution an develop it with a detailed plan. Use SketchBook® or pencil and paper to prepare a detailed top view of the redesigned park. If you have time produce some extra perspective drawings of areas in the park.
Refine
Put your work together into a proposal for the park redevelopment.
What have you learned in the process? Are there aspects that you could change and improve?
